Sherry Williams is retired from the Will County Sheriff’s Department, where she worked as a Telecommunicator at the Laraway Road Police Station and as a Classification Specialist at the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
She is a lifelong Will County Resident, having attended Fairmont Grade School in Lockport Township, and St. Francis Academy (now JCA) in Joliet, Illinois. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, with a Minor in Sociology from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois.
Sherry is a Union activist and was the first woman, and the first African American to be elected as President of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Will County Employees Local 1028, and she held that position for 12 consecutive years. After serving as Union President, she continued to be active in the Local as Steward, Trustee, and Vice President. She is currently active in the AFSCME Chapter 31 Retiree Chapter.
In February 2020, she was appointed as the Lockport Township Collector. She was elected Precinct Committeeperson for Lockport Township Precinct 21 in the March 2020 primary election, and she has recently been slated as a candidate for Lockport Township Trustee in the upcoming April 2021 election.
She has spent her career in public service, and it is her wish to continue to serve and positively contribute to the community through political and other local activities.
